Emerald Ice

Emerald Ice

Floating ice in the emerald waters of Tracy Arm Fjord.

My wife and I celebrated our sixth anniversary this past weekend. In celebration I’m happy to present Emerald Ice, captured on our honeymoon cruise in 2006, as this week’s Image of the Week.

Photography was certainly my primary hobby at the time, but I was still learning my way around my first dSLR. The Nikon D50 was a great introduction to “real” digital photography and this trip offered some spectacular scenery to capture. We sailed deep into the Tracy Arm Fjord and I shot many photos along the way. This image with it’s emerald green water, solitary floating ice, and waterfall in the background was my favorite on this leg of the cruise.

My technique and equipment have both improved over the years. Emerald Ice proves that even a photographer still early in the learning process with entry level equipment can “get the shot.” I hope to get another opportunity to take a cruise, but our first one was full of great memories!

Technical Specs:

  • Raw image with Nikon D50 @ 200 ISO
  • Tamron AF70-300 LD @ 300mm
  • 1/320 of a second @ ƒ/6
  • Wednesday, July 19, 2006 @ 07:22
  • Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska, USA
